Description

Poop happens, especially if you have a pet. Now there is a better way of dealing with it ... the Pet Poop Composter, plus it is a worm farm that harnesses the power of nature to recycle pet droppings into worm castings worm castings as an incredibly nutrient-rich soil amendment.

The Tumbleweed Pet Poop Composter is a two-level vermiculture system designed to recycle pet poop into valuable worm casting and compost tea that can be used in gardens or landscaping. Redworms (not included) will transform the waste at the chemical level. The worms will multiply and can even be harvested for fishing.

What is Vermicomposting? Vermicompost is the end-product of the breakdown of organic matter by some species of earthworm. Vermicompost is different than other types of composts because it is much richer in many nutrients. Vermicompost is beneficial to the soil in several ways. It improves the physical structure of the soil, improves the biological properties of the soil, improves water holding capacity, and enhances germination and plant growth. Red worms are the most common worm used in vermicomposting. Vermicompost consists mainly of worm castings and decayed organic matter.

The multi-tiered Tumbleweed Pet Poop Converter is comprised of two sturdy vented boxes, creating a compact portable system. Pet waste and biodegradable bedding are placed in the top box, which has a perforated base to allow valuable liquid waste to drain through to the bottom collector box. Poop Converter Composter may be used indoors or outdoors in full shade during temperate months. Complete comprehensive instructions regarding set-up and use included.

Worms eat and breed in the top box. Because the worms eat the bacteria, there is no odor. The unit is easy to set up and operate and takes little space. Worm castings remain in the top box and can be harvested as desired. The bottom or catcher box collects the liquid waste which can be diluted and used as a fertilizer on your ornamental plants.

Commercial worm farmers rear their worms on manure. However, worms should not be feed a mixed diet. They must be fed exclusively on pet droppings or recycled vegetable scraps, not both. Biodegradable litter can be added to the mix; but Kitty litter is not compostable and should not be put in the bin, it can kill the worms.

Worms feed on the pathogens as they burrow their way through the compost, their stomach strains out the bacteria and parasites. In their wake, worms leave behind an increased volume of beneficial bacteria. Red worms are fast breeders and can consume their own weight in food in twenty-four hours. Once sufficient poop has been collected to begin the process, one thousand worms is a typical amount to start the process. Each worm will produce an egg capsule approximately every two weeks, each capsule contains between five and fifteen worms. Eggs hatch in three weeks time and worms mature within three months. Worms will breed to the environment, so if you reduce the amount of food, the worm population will decrease accordingly.
