Ophiopogon japonicus 'Mondo Grass' a/k/a mondo grass, dwarf lily turf, snakebeard
Zones 7 to 10; Filtered sun or deep shade.
Mature size 6 to 12 inches height, forms a dense grass-like groundcover.
Dark green, grass-like leaves emerge in clumps from a network of rhizomes that grow just below the soil surface. With age the clumps will merge to form a soft dense carpet of foliage. In summer, tiny spikes of small purple flowers are hidden in the dense foliage. Very easy to grow evergreen perennial, member of the lily family.
Grow in average, medium moisture, well-drained soil in part shade to full shade. Intolerant of full sun. Plant in small clusters or large; small-scale ground cover in rock gardens, between stepping stones or low border edging.
