Artemisia 'Powis Castle' - (15) Quarts
Common Name: wormwood
Zones 6 to 9.
Full sun.
Plants reach to 24 to 36 inches tall and to 12 to 24 inches wide; semi-evergreen, woody-based perennial or subshrub. Growth rate: Moderate.
'Powis Castle' typically grows to a shrubby 2 to 3foot tall and as wide mound. Spreading by underground rhizomes, if not restrained, it could reach 6 foot wide. Rarely flowering, Artemisia 'Powis Castle' has feathery, silvery aromatic foliage.
Susceptible to root rot in moist, poorly drained soil, Artemisia grows best in poor to moderately fertile, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant, regular water during the first growing season will help establish a deep, extensive root system. Fertilize with a general purpose fertilizer before new spring growth.
Prune plants in spring to control growth, may be lightly sheared in summer to shape, do not prune in fall, and never prune stems to the ground.
Excellent as a border plant, in mass, rock garden, in a herb garden, or as a stand-alone specimen and as dried flowers. Deer resistant. |
