Artemisia vulgaris 'Oriental Limelight' (15) Quarts
Common Name: wormwood, mugwort.
Zones 4 to 8.
Full sun.
Plants reach 22 to 24 inches tall and 18 to 30 inches wide, may spread by rhizomes. Herbaceous perennial with generally upright habit that typically grows in a mounded clump.
Variegated lemon- yellow and green, finely-dissected foliage are aromatic when bruised. The tiny, whitish, flower heads appear in dense panicles at the stem ends in summer.
Susceptible to root rot in moist, poorly drained soil, Artemisia grows best in poor to moderately fertile, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant, regular water during the first growing season will help establish a deep, extensive root system. Fertilize with a general purpose fertilizer before new spring growth.
Prune plants in spring to control growth, may be lightly sheared in summer to shape, do not prune in fall, and never prune stems to the ground.
Excellent as a border plant, in mass, rock garden, in a herb garden, or as a stand-alone specimen and as dried flowers. Deer and rabbit resistant. Species plants were used in Europe to flavor beer before the use of hops. |
