Phlox paniculata grow well in moderately fertile, medium moisture, well-drained soil. Rich, moist, organic soil and mulch are beneficial as it is intolerant of drought. Phlox paniculata is unequaled for showy blooms over a long period throughout the summer. Though they are some of the most popular perennials available, they do require some maintenance to sustain their health and vigor.
Deadheading faded flower panicles may prolong blooms into early fall. Their fragrance attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. A garden mainstay, excellent for perennial borders, mass planting, corners and for cut flowers. Phlox is a member of the Polemoniaceae family and is native from New York to Georgia, and west to Arkansas and Illinois. |
