Description
Kniphofia hirsuta 'Fire Dance' (30)ct Ellepots
Common name: Red Hot Poker, Torch Lily or Tritoma.
Zones 4 to 9.
Full sun.
Plants reach 20 inches tall and 20 inches wide;
upright, clump-forming, rhizomatous perennial.
Growth rate: Moderate.
Evergreen in mild regions and herbaceous in cooler zones

Coral red and yellow flower spikes atop a low-growing, thick clump of narrow, arching, blue-green foliage. Red Hot Poker is a garden focal point when in bloom from early to late summer. Deadheading will prolong the blooming period. After the plant is finished flowering, the sword-shaped leaves should be cut back by half to stimulate new leaf growth.

A sun lover that likes it hot and dry, Kniphofia can be grown in any well-drained soil, though a good supply of water is appreciated when blooming. Prefers rich, organic, medium-moisture, well-drained soils; and is intolerant of wet, heavy soils.

Kniphofia will benefit by having its leaf tips trimmed in the spring to stimulate healthy, new growth. In zones 5 and 6, the foliage can be mulched or tied together over the crown of the plant in the fall to keep water from settling on the crown and freezing.

Attributes: border plant, containers, cut flower, drought and salt tolerant. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Deer and rabbit resistant.

The Ellepot System is a method of growing in a peat media filled paper tube. Ellepots are environmentally friendly and decompose in the garden.

An Ellepot is a root permeable, biodegradable paper sleeve, instead of plastic. It is beneficial to plant development as root system does not spiral, and natural root development is encouraged.

Guidelines for Handling and Transplanting Elle Plugs

1) We strive to send every Elle plug with sufficient moisture to last through shipping. Upon delivery of your order, inspect all Elle plugs for soil moisture.
2) Water any plugs that appear to be dry immediately. If the Elle paper is dry, then the plug is drying out. All plugs arrive with the addition of a wetting agent to facilitate prompt, even water absorption.
3) If the Elle plugs are to be held for a period of time before transplanting, check the plugs regularly to ensure they are evenly moist. Do not let plugs dry out.
4) Just before transplanting, re-check moisture level of all plugs scheduled to be transplanted. Ensure that plugs are thoroughly moist.
