FIREWITCH Dianthus (30)ct Ellepots
CHEDDAR PINK
Zones 3 to 8.
Full sun
Mature size: 6 to 8 inches tall, spreads to 12 inches wide.
Low-growing, compact ground cover. Magenta pink, serrated edged petals appear in mass above silvery-blue evergreen foliage. Heavy late spring bloom followed by fall bloom season, with sporadic in-between blooms, if deadheaded.
Needs well-drained soil. Roots do not like to stay damp. Heat tolerant.
Dianthus grow best in loose, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soils. Lime can be added to the soil if it is naturally acidic to raise the pH. Dianthus can be grown in full sun or part shade, but the foliage will not be as lush and fewer flowers will be produced if it is grown in hot, dry areas. Tolerant of short periods of drought.
In colder zones, add a layer of mulch to protect the evergreen foliage. As soon as the weather begins to warm up, remove all of this mulch to prevent crown rot.
Excellent as a border plant, in mass or containers, as cut flower or foliage, dried flower or seed heads, salt tolerant. With the scent of clove, this fragrant member of the carnation family flowers attracts butterflies. Deer resistant. |
