Description
Coreopsis grandiflora 'Early Sunrise' (25) plants
Common name: Tickseed.
Zones 4 to 9.
Full sun.
Plants reach 18 inches tall and 15 to 24 inches wide,
a compact coreopsis.
Growth rate: Moderate, Easy to grow.

A profusion of brilliant golden-yellow, semi-double flowers atop 18 inches tall stems. Flowers have yellow rays and darker yellow center disks. One of the earliest blooming Coreopsis, 'Early Sunrise' will flower in late spring and continuing to late summer if spent flower stems are removed.

'Early Sunrise' grows in dry to medium moisture, most soil conditions with good drainage, including sandy or rocky. It is tolerant of humidity, heat and drought. Plants may be cut back hard in summer if foliage sprawls or becomes unkempt. Although most coreopsis cultivars should be propagated by division, 'Early Sunrise' generally comes true from seed.

Fleuroselect Gold Medal 1989
Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit 1993

Coreopsis is easy to grow, making it a good choice for beginners. One plant will provide you with long-lasting cut flower bouquets all summer long. Plants in the genus Coreopsis are sometimes called tickseed as seeds resemble ticks.

Excellent as a border plant, in containers or for cut flowers, in mass plantings, specimen or focal point. When grown in borders or other formal garden areas, division may be needed every 2 to 3 years. Attracts butterflies and Deer resistant.
